INSIGHT
Landfall is a music album composed by Laurie Anderson and performed along with the traditional strings by Kronos Quartet. Anderson, the iconic musician and storyteller, was inspired by her experience during hurricane Sandy in 2012. Her 30 songs express her feelings of loss, fear, and nostalgia with different multimedia, lush electronics, and instruments.
GOAL
The main goal of this project was to represent Laurie Anderson’s feelings captured in each of her songs. Her fear and concern during this dreadful experience are almost palpable throughout her album. I wanted to illustrate these intense emotions in the design of her vinyl cover.
OUTCOMETo come up with a fitting design, multiple explorations of mark - making were made over several weeks. In the end, this composition made out of paint was chosen to be the cover of the vinyl. This organic and abstract piece shows the representation of falling and despair experienced by Anderson. By giving it a first look, the viewer can observe that the album has a somber and emotional tone.
